    Candied Yams

Hey everyone, hope you are having an incredible day today. Today, we’re going to prepare a distinctive dish, candied yams. It is one of my favorites food recipes. For mine, I’m gonna make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Candied yams are a classic Southern side dish, especially when it comes to Thanksgiving. Even though Mama makes the same sweet potato casserole every year, she won't be offended if you bring these candied yams once she tries them. Lightly spiced and oh-so-sweet, these candied yams will become a mainstay in your Thanksgiving recipe lineup.

Candied Yams is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It is appreciated by millions every day. It’s easy, it is fast, it tastes yummy. Candied Yams is something which I’ve loved my entire life. They’re fine and they look fantastic.

    Guide to Prepare Candied Yams

To get started with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can cook candied yams using 9 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

    Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make Candied Yams:

    1. Make ready 4 sweet potatoes, peeled & chopped
    2. Prepare 1 cup sugar, divided
    3. Make ready 1 cup brown sugar, divided
    4. Get 2 tbsp salt
    5. Take 2 tbsp vanilla
    6. Make ready 1 tbsp cinnamon
    7. Prepare 1 tsp nutmeg
    8. Take 2 tbsp water
    9. Prepare 1/2 stick butter, cubed

They can be difficult to find in grocery stores, which is probably why sweet potatoes are more commonly used. The thing that really sets these apart from other candied yams is the browned butter. I started using browned butter in many of my sweet potato recipes because it really is the ultimate way to upgrade sweet potatoes. It perfectly compliments that sweet flavor while bringing a nutty, caramel-like flavor to the dish.

    Instructions

    Instructions to make Candied Yams:

    1. Turn stove on medium low.. Place the 2 tbsp water in bottom of pot and put in half the yams.
    2. Pour in half the sugar, brown sugar then add the 2 tbsp salt.
    3. Place other half of yams on top and put in rest of sugar, brown sugar, & all other seasonings.
    4. Place lid on HALFWAY. Don't cover completely.
    5. After about 10-12 minutes you'll see the sugar mixture boiling, DO NOT STIR. Simply flip over the TOP yams and gently push into the sugar mixture. Once flipped place lid back on HALFWAY for another 10-12 minutes.
    6. Turn off & remove from heat. Place cubed pieces of butter in pot and allow mixture to settle with lid on.
    7. If you want to add marshmallows, just pour mixture into dish & top with marshmallows, place in oven at 350 for another 10-12 minutes or until marshmallows melt.

Pour can of Yams in a casserole (or oven safe cookware). Sprinkle Yams with Brown Sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and mix well. The candied mixture that I pour over my candied yams is a combination butter, sugar, and yummy spices such as ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and dash of ground clove! Making these southern baked candied yams is super easy. Candied yams are a classic of the Southern table, but most recipes suffer from a fatal flaw: a sauce that breaks into sugar and grease in the oven.
