    1. Make ready 1/4 cup Toovar Dal
    2. Prepare 3-4 Medium size tomatoes
    3. Get Few sprigs curry leaves
    4. Get 2 Tbsp coriander leaves chopped fine plus more for garnish
    5. Take 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    6. Get Pinch hing
    7. Prepare 1 Tbsp tamarind pulp

    9. Take 2 Tbsp Rasam Powder
    10. Get 1/2 tsp whole black peppercorns
    11. Make ready 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    12. Make ready 2 cups water

    It is known as Tomato Charu in Tamilnadu and Thakkali Rasam in Kerala. Similar to Pepper Rasam , preparing Tomato Rasam at home is very easy and requires only few basic ingredients like tomato, black peppercorns, garlic, cumin seeds and few other common. Tomato rasam recipe - Rasam is a daily affair at my home for dinner on most weekdays. Rasam, a vegetable stir fry with rice and ghee makes a comforting meal and is easy to prepare as well.


    Instructions

    Instructions to make Tomato Rasam:

    1. Ingredients. Soak Toovar Dal for 20 mins.
    2. Pressure cook the Dal with pinch of hing and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder for 4-5 whistles. Set aside and mix sigh 1 cup water
    3. Chop the tomatoes fine, chop the coriander leaves fine. In a pan add chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander leaves, Rasam powder, salt and 1 cup water. On low flame cover and cook until water is little reduced.
    4. Add cooked Dal with water and cook further on low flame. Add tamarind pulp and mix well
    5. In a separate pan roast cumin seeds and whole black peppercorns until little brown in colour. Add to a blender for a coarse powder. Set aside. Add to the Rasam
    6. In the same pan heat ghee, add mustard seeds, hing and curry leaves. Let it splutters and add to Rasam. Cook the Rasam for 1 min more and set aside
    7. Serve with rice and enjoy

    Tomato rasam is light on the stomach and aids in digestion and hydrates the tummy. Hence I prefer to make it quite often. Though there are many varieties of rasam made at home.
